Karkala, Sep 29: A cyclist was knocked down to death by a recklessly driven lorry near Yennehole Bridge here on Thursday September 28 afternoon.

The deceased has been identified as Subraya Acharya (55), a resident of Onimane near Kerenjimane here.  He was a carpenter by profession.  On Thursday afternoon he was on his way home for lunch when a speeding lorry rammed into his bicycle.  The Kerala registered lorry was carrying rice to Hebri from the city.

As it reached near Yennehole Bridge, the driver lost control over it owing to over speed and rammed into a tree by the roadside.  But it was on speeding away on such speed that it did not stop but hit Subraya Acharya who was coming from the opposite direction.

As a result, Subraya fell on the road and lorry passed on him, crushing him to death on the spot.  The Karkala police have registered a case against lorry driver Sitaram Shetty in this regard.

Subraya who hailed from an economically backward family is survived by wife and a daughter.
