  • Indian to launch Airbus 320 from Mangalore to Mumbai
  • Airport operates flights to Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai
  • Director General of Civil Aviation yet to approve proposals of two airlines 

Mangalore, Sep 19: The Bajpe airport will operate two more daily flights, one to Mumbai and another to Banglaore from October 29 if the Director General of Civil Aviation approves new proposals of two airline operators.

If these two proposals are cleared the number of domestic daily flight operations (one way) at the airport will go up from eight to ten.

The total number of flight movements (arrival and departure) will go up from 16 to 20, official sources told on Monday.

Further, Air India Express has announced that it will start its inaugural flight between Mangalore and Dubai from October 3. This will operate on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

New proposals

Sources said that of the two new domestic proposals, Indian has come forward to introduce Airbus 320 from Mangalore to Mumbai. It would arrive here from Mumbai at 11.15 a.m. and depart at 12.00 a.m. Air Deccan has proposed to introduce an ATR 217 aircraft from Mangalore to Bangalore.It will arrive here from Bangalore at 5.05 p.m. and depart at 5.20 p.m.

If this schedule is approved Air Deccan has proposed to change the timing of its existing morning flight between Mangalore and Bangalore.

The morning flight from Bangalore can arrive at 9.20 a.m. and depart at 9.35 a.m. according to its proposal. Both the airlines have submitted their proposals to the Airports Authority of India (AAI).

The Director General of Civil Aviation is yet to approve the timings, sources said.

Flights operated

At present, the airport operates four flights to Mumbai, three to Bangalore and one to Chennai.

According to sources, an airline that operated a service between Mangalore and Mumbai wanted to introduce a larger aircraft two days a week on this route.

This aircraft could carry 180 passengers. At present, this aircraft accommodates 120 passengers.
