Bangalore, Sept 18: Higher Educa-tion Minister D.H. Shankaramurthy has kicked up a row saying Tipu Sultan, who had sidelined Kannada language, which was the State language in the then princely State of Mysore and made Persian as the State language, need not be given any status in the history of Karnataka.

Speaking after inaugurating the regional conference of Shiksha Bachao movement at Sheshadripuram College here yesterday, Shankaramurthy asserted that Tipu Sultan should not be glorified and it is not apt also, as he had taken an anti-Kannada stand by neglecting the language.

Most of the history text books in the country depict Tipu Sultan, Akbar, Aurangazeb Alexander and others as patriots but the real ones are never brought to light, observed Murthy.
