Mangalore, Sep 1: Teacher’s from all over the state, under the banner of FUCTAK (Federation of University and College Teachers Associations in Karnataka), will observe Teacher’s Day with a difference by holding a state-level convention on Save Degree Education.

The convention will be held at Senate Hall, Central College, Bangalore University City Campus on September 5 at 3 pm.

According to a press release from AMUCT (Association of Mangalore University College Teachers) president, Joslyn Lobo, the convention is not a protest against any section or authority but a sincere attempt to create awareness about various issues and problems plaguing the collegiate education today. Eminent educationists and teachers representatives will address the convention.

The need for a dialogue is relevant on an occasion like Teacher’s Day on account of the crisis in degree education. A major area of concern is the miserable plight of innumerable unaided teachers who are being exploited with unreasonably low salaries ranging from Rs 2,000 to Rs 6,000 and with additional teaching hours.

The paradoxical situation of students earning high salaries, while their experienced teachers are struggling for existence is an issue for all progressive societies on Teacher’s Day, the release mentioned.
