Sullia, Aug 31: The High Court has issued an order to stay the election of new managing committee to Sri Kukke Subrahmanya Temple here.
As reported earlier new managing committee and managing trustee were elected for the Subrahmanya Temple on Wednesday August 23. After hearing a petition filed by one Sanjeev Gowda, the High Court order to stay the present list and also issued a notice to Endowment and Religious Trusts Department in this regard.
Earlier applications were invited as per Hindu Temples and Endowment Act of 1997 to the new managing committee of Subrahmanya Temple which comes under 'A' grade temples, on July 28, last year. However, the nine-member managing committee was not finalized.
Meanwhile, endowment commissioner T Shyam Bhat issued another notice on June 10 inviting applications. The petitioner complained that within 3 days of inviting applications, the new committee was formed. It is also alleged that a few relatives, RSS activists and persons whom they wanted were inducted into the new committee. He also complained that to pacify any protest, 3 persons who had applied for the first notice had been inducted too. Thus, Sanjeev Gowda had complained that the election process was incomplete and partial.
Hearing his petition, the Karnataka High Court has now stayed the election of new committee.
