Mysore/Yalandur, Aug. 30: In a bizarre incident, a person beheaded his wife and carried it around the village causing panic among the onlookers in Agara village near here on Monday August 28

Ramadasa Naika, a tender coconut vendor, had married Neelamma, daughter of Siddanaika of the village about 15 years ago and has three children. After about five years the couple were separated and Ramadasa married Puttamma from Singanallur village in Kollegal.

Neelamma had received 28 guntas of land from her family and Ramadasa Naika was pestering her to transfer the property to his second wife Puttamma. According to villagers, this led to a quarrel Monday.

Ramadasa Naika took Neelamma under the pretext of negotiations with elders in the village and midway entered into a wordy duel. In a fit of rage, Ramadasa attacked Neelamma with the matchet, beheaded her and carried the severed head around the village on his cycle.

He came to the bus stand and placed the head on a stone slab and sat near it for sometime. The terror-struck villagers did not dare to approach him.

Later, Ramadasa Naika surrendered to the Mamballi Police.

SP Devajyothi Ray, Additional SP Machaiah, Kollegal Dy.SP Nagaraju, Inspector Mallik and SI Somanna visited the spot. Police have registered a case based on a complaint by the deceased' brother Rachanaiaka.
