Udupi, Aug 29: While most of the political parties, leaders and organizations are tired of protesting against the pathetic condition of roads in the Dakshina Kannada district, a former MLA has drawn attention of the public by a unique kind of protest at Uppoor near Brahmavar here. Except one or two isolated protests, there have been very less agitations staged against the bad roads in the district.

However, Uppoor Jayaprakash Shetty, an MLA of Brahmavar from 1967 to 1971, staged a lone and unique protest on Sunday August 27 on National Highway 17 at Uppoor near here.

He with the help of a few local youth and residents slept on the road from 9 am to 12 pm on the road.  The stretch of road where he staged protested has completely been filled with potholes.  Earlier he had staged protest on Saturday too but all alone and only for a little while.  However, on Sunday he had the support of some locals and protested for almost three hours.  Traffic was affected owing the protest.

Later he said that if the road is not repaired within a week, he would sleep on the road continuously, that is, 24 hours of the day.  He was quite confident that some more will join hands with him in this protest.
