Sensex gains 123 points in pre-noon session


Mumbai, Jan 2 (IANS): A benchmark index of Indian equities markets gained 123.25 points or 0.58 percent in the pre-noon trade Thursday.

All the sectors were trading in the green. The rally was led by the banking index (bankex) and the consumer durables, metal and healthcare sectors.

The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 21,179.91 points, was trading at 21,263.73 points in the pre-noon session, up 123.25 points or 0.58 percent from previous day's close at 21,140.48 points.

The Sensex touched a high of 21,331.32 points and a low of 21,140.58 points during the trade so far.

The S&P BSE bankex increased by 187.09 points, the consumer durables index gained 101.97 points, the metal index moved up by 81.31 points and the healthcare index augmented by 77.65 points.

The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) also gained 36.15 points or 0.57 percent at 6,337.80 points.
