Ancient tombs unearthed in China

Beijing, Oct 11 (IANS): At least 300 relics have been found in a cluster of ancient tombs in China, archaeologists said Friday.

The tombs, located in the country's Hebei province, are believed to be from the middle and late West Han Dynasty (206 BC-24 AD) and middle Tang Dynasty, Xinhua quoted archaeologist Li Lianshen as saying.

More than 4,000 square meters of land had been combed since the excavation started in May, and archaeologists have discovered a total of 73 tombs, Li said.

Zhang Xiaozheng, head of the excavation, said the relics were mostly pottery, chinaware and bronze ware.

About 10 more tombs are yet to be excavated, he added.
