Panaji, Jan 19: The Communist Party of India’s three-day long national council meeting which began here on Wednesday will have brain-storming sessions reviewing its preparedness for the five state assembly elections scheduled sometime this year.

The council meeting began at Mirmar, 5 kms away from Panaji, in which party’s main leaders including general secretary A B Bardhan, D Raja, Sudhakar Reddy, Amarjeet Kaur, Annie Raja, Shameem Faizee, J Chittaranjan, Pallabh Pasha and others are participating.

"The national council meeting will deliberate on the elections scheduled in five states and party’s preparedness to face it effectively,’’ Bardhan said here.

The council meeting is also expected to adopt various resolutions on national and international issues. The resolution on campaign against American president George Bush’s proposed India visit would also be taken after a detailed discussion on it.

Terming Bush as "face of America’s aggressive imperialism,’’ Bardhan said that the left parties have already decided to campaign against his India visit and CPI will endorse its stand.

CPI’s national council meeting will also adopt resolution condemning proposed anti-communist campaign to be taken up by European union which puts communism on par with fascism. "If anti-communist resolution is passed in European parliament, it will herald anti-communist drive,’’ Bardhan feared.

CPI’s itinerary also includes other resolutions like implementation of two important legislations - Right to information act and national-rural employment guarantee act. "These acts are likely to remain on papers unless we guarantee that they are properly implemented,’’ he said.

The party will also resolve on recent Kalingnagar tribal massacre incident. "CPI will stress on importance of working amongst tribal population who are on march in almost all the states,’’ Bardhan said.
