Karkala, Jan 17: A construction died of a fall from the roof of a house under construction at Hirgana near here on Monday January 16.

The deceased has been identified as Hanumantappa (50), a native of Vidyanagar in Shimoga district.  He had been seriously injured after falling from the roof on Saturday January 14.  He was admitted to Wenlock Hospital where he succumbed to the injuries on Monday.

One Hirianna Shetty of Hirgan had brought 15 labourers from Shimoga for his house construction.  On Saturday Hanumantappa had climbed up the roof of the temporary shed.  The roof of the temporary shed was covered with cement sheets.  As he was coming down from the roof, the cement sheet broke and Hanumantappa fell down.  His head hit against a big stone at the doorpost.  As a result he sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Wenlock Hospital at Mangalore.

It is said that Hanumantappa did not take enough care and had not expected the roof to break.  So he is said to have walked casually on the sheet, which in turn spelt doom for him.
