Impressive 'English Vinglish' Struggling at Box Office

New Delhi, Oct 8 (IANS): Good story. Impressive narration. Flawless performance. Despite all these qualities, Sridevi's comeback film "English Vinglish" hasn't received overwhelming response at the box office, but trade experts are expecting word of mouth to boost footfalls.

Girish Wankhede, of Cinemax in Mumbai, says the word of mouth is working well for the film.

"The response to the film has been positive and very good. People have liked the film. The opening has been average today but it will grow by 65 percent Sunday as the word of mouth for the film is very strong," Wankhede told IANS.

Hilarious, touching and sensitive, the film is directed by ad filmmaker Gauri Shinde who has done an impressive job as a first time director by bringing a message-driven film without being preachy.

"English Vinglish" is a light-hearted yet touching journey of Shashi, (Sridevi), who does not know English and is made to feel insecure by her family and society at large.

The film whets your appetite, thanks to Sridevi's flawless and seamless performance. She is brilliant in front of the camera.

Also featuring Adil Hussain, Priya Anand and French actor Mehdi Nebbou, "English Vinglish" is co-produced by Sunil Lulla, R. Balki, Rakesh Jhunjhunwala and R.K. Damani.

Delhi-based distributor Joginder Mahajan told IANS: "The movie is appreciated by media but it got a 5-10 percent opening in Delhi. It might pick up."

But Anant Verma, business head, DT Cinemas, is looking forward to make profits with Sridevi's comeback movie.

"It is Sridevi's comeback movie, therefore people have a lot of expectations from it. Audience has been looking forward to the movie ever since the trailers are out. All our shows have gone jam packed today. Overall DT Cinemas is incurring good business out of 'English Vinglish'."

A Good film to which one can relate to, is not appreciated. This movie might be a box office failure.
The Indian public require pelvic gyrations& skin show from the heroines, Bashing the day lights of 5-10 goons at one go by the Super Heros, couple of songs shot in foreign locales , item numbers & some Masala,
What can you expect from a country that calls Katrina Kaif, Abishek Bachan, Tushaar Kapoor, Uday Chopra, Sonam Kapoor as Actors & Stars. Nepotism rules the film Industry.
The sad example is ‘’20 movies copy to make one’’ Barfi has been nominated for Oscar. The juries might laugh their pants off when they view this rehash.
