Drama on a High at WIFW

New Delhi, Oct 7 (IANS): The opening day of Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW) saw a lot of drama with colours on the ramp in fashion designer Kiran Uttam Ghosh and Poonam Bhagat's collection.

Ghosh presented her collection inspired from Middle-East's nomadic feel of the desert tribe in the capital Saturday.

Her collection presented new layering ideas that went beyond the tunics and trousers theory. She introduced new interpretations like Sarong-sari along with interesting renditions of her pleated line.

"My collection is a more mature line with its embellishments and motifs from the Middle East and Orient. It has a lot of layers and a certain element of tribal feel. The underlined factor is that it is very Indian," said Ghosh.

"They are made in India and can be worn globally. I started my collection with black and then went to darker greys and then pure silver and ivory," she added.

The collection had salwar-pants with patchwork pockets, skinny cigarette pants, multilevel jackets in soft fabrics, layered tunics and long column dresses.

The prices start from Rs.10,000 and go up to Rs.25,000.

Ghosh shared the show with designer Poonam Bhagat, who showcased her collection inspired by Central Asia. She used fabrics like cotton and Chanderi and created a lot of drama on stage with the colour black and red.

"My collection started with short dresses and as the show proceed the dresses became longer and transformed into robe. I transformed it and decided to have these robes with jumpsuits to give that classy, edgy and contemporary look," Bhagat said.

She showcased long flowy kaftans, short dresses, jumpsuits and long flowing robes. The collection had dramatic reds, blacks, ivories and emeralds in appliqued and embroidered forms.

"My market is very diverse. The collection has everything for everybody, from people of the age group of 17 to 75," said Bhagat.

The show had designer Ritu Kumar sitting in the front row.
