Indo-Dutch show gets Whistles, Applauds at WIFW

New Delhi, Oct 7 (IANS): It's time now for the Dutch fashion industry to showcase their design aesthetics on Indian shores, and they not just managed to do it successfully but also got a warm response from fashion connoisseurs during the opening day of the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW).

Co-initiated by the FDCI (Fashion Design Council of India) foundation, HTNK Fashion recruitment and consultancy foundation and House of Denim, the programme titled "Dutch Fashion Here & Now India" (DFH&NI) saw Indians Suneet Varma, Rohit Gandhi and Rahul Khanna team up with Dutch fashion designers Jan Taminiau and designer duo Diederik Verbakel and Marieke Holthuis of the label DIED respectively, to showcase their collections.

From blings, shimmers, gold and glitter, the collection displayed on the ramp had everything that fashion patrons will ask for. From dresses, skirts, to lehangas and saris, the designs truly personified a mix of east meets west.

Some of the dresses got a standing ovation from guests sitting in the front row while a few even got whistles and applauds.

Taminiau who showcased his collection with Suneet, said he has heard a lot about the Indian designer and was happy to showcase his collection with him.

"I was immediately intrigued to collaborate with an Indian designer and when I contacted my network in Asia, Suneet Varma was suggested as the go-to name. Suneet excels at marrying traditional Indian embroideries with modern draping techniques to create pieces that are unrivalled. My work centres on form and construction, whilst I experiment with new and unconventional shapes," said Taminiau.

Design house DIED said that collaboration between the two countries was going to help in the long run.

"The collaboration is a fantastic and exciting process, a true global exchange of ideas and craftsmanship. A unique blend of contemporary styles would be seen," they said.
