Air India Flight makes emergency landing in Jaipur after hijack alert

Daijiworld Media Network - Jaipur

Jaipur, Oct 14: An Air India flight from Frankfurt to Delhi made an emergency landing at Jaipur Airport on Tuesday following a suspected hijack alert triggered by a brief 'Squawk-7500' signal.

The aircraft, operating as flight AI-2030, reportedly triggered the alert for a few seconds, which was received by Ahmedabad Air Traffic Control (ATC) and immediately alerted security agencies.

Squawk-7500 is an internationally recognised aviation transponder code used to indicate a hijacking or unlawful seizure of an aircraft. Following the alert, the flight was diverted to Jaipur, where it landed safely.

After landing, the aircraft was moved to the airport's isolation bay at around 9.45 am to facilitate security checks. Aircraft are moved to designated isolation bays during security-related emergencies to allow agencies to inspect them while keeping them separated from other aircraft.

An official confirmation regarding the reported Squawk-7500 alert is awaited.
