New Delhi, Sep 25: Most prominent voters who received notices during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Delhi have cleared the verification process, with their names set to be included in the final electoral roll, officials said on Thursday.
Among those who received notices were BJP veteran LK Advani, former vice-president Jagdeep Dhankhar, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal.
Several other prominent personalities from the judiciary, politics, public service, journalism, sports, arts and culture were also issued notices after discrepancies were flagged in their enumeration forms.
Officials said many of the prominent voters were marked as “unmapped with last SIR” in electoral records from the previous revision conducted in Delhi in 2002. A significant number of them are registered in the New Delhi Assembly constituency.
In recent days, teams of election officials, including booth-level officers (BLOs), visited the voters concerned and verified their details against documents prescribed by the Election Commission. Following verification, their entries were cleared for inclusion in the final electoral roll, scheduled to be published on November 4.
The notices were issued after the names of the voters did not figure in the draft electoral roll published on August 31. The Election Commission has said that notices issued during the claims and objections phase are intended to facilitate the submission and verification of requisite documents.
The draft electoral roll contains more than 97 lakh electors, while 33.13 lakh voters have been identified for notices over discrepancies in their enumeration forms. A large number of cases involve voters whose details could not be matched with the electoral roll prepared during the previous SIR in 2002.
The Delhi Chief Electoral Officer's office has clarified that issuance of a notice does not by itself mean that a voter's name will be deleted from the electoral roll. Voters are given an opportunity to submit documents and have their entries verified before a decision is taken.
The Election Commission's schedule provides for the final electoral roll for Delhi to be published on November 4.
