Kohima, Sep 21: Nagaland’s draft electoral roll published on Sunday has excluded nearly 1.59 lac names from the 13.57 lac electors on the pre-Special Intensive Revision (SIR) roll, according to the Chief Electoral Officer’s (CEO) office.

The draft roll contains around 11.99 lac names. The SIR exercise identified 29,944 electors from the previous roll as deceased, while 1.23 lac were found to be absent or permanently shifted and 5,059 were registered at more than one place.

The enumeration phase was conducted across Nagaland from August 16 to September 14, during which Booth Level Officers carried out house-to-house verification. The state’s SIR qualifying date is October 1.

According to the CEO office, the absent, shifted and other category includes electors who have become voters in other States or Union Territories, those who could not be traced during verification, those who did not submit their enumeration forms by September 14, and those unwilling to register.

The publication of the draft roll does not mark the end of the revision process. Electors whose names have been omitted can file claims and objections from September 20 to October 20. The Election Commission’s prescribed process also allows eligible persons who could not submit their enumeration forms during the house-to-house exercise to seek inclusion by submitting Form 6 along with the required declaration and supporting documents.

The notice phase and disposal of claims and objections will continue until November 18. During this period, Electoral Registration Officers and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers will scrutinise claims and determine eligibility based on the prescribed documents and field verification.

The final electoral roll for Nagaland is scheduled to be published on November 22, 2026. The SIR process is aimed at preparing an accurate electoral roll while ensuring that eligible citizens are not left out and ineligible entries are not included.
