Mangaluru, Sep 13: In a proactive move to maintain law and order, the city police have registered a suo motu case against two rival factions who attempted to instigate a gang war by brandishing swords on the outskirts of the city.

The terrifying face-off occurred on the night of September 9 near the Ganada Bettu junction in Kannur. According to sources, members of the two groups arrived at the spot in two cars, wielding swords and hurling abuses at each other over a prior rivalry.

The first faction includes rowdy sheeter Deal Noufal and his associates Ammi, Kottu Nizam, and others. The opposing group consists of associates of the recently deceased Toppi Noufal, namely rowdy sheeter Ansar, Asif alias Moppu Achi, Iqbal alias Papu, and others.

During the confrontation, the armed miscreants openly threatened to murder each other. They also intimidated local residents, warning them of dire consequences if anyone dared to report the clash to the authorities. Gripped by fear of the notorious rowdy sheeters, the locals hesitated to step forward with a formal complaint.

However, Kankanady town police inspector Shivakumar received a tip-off about the incident on September 10. He visited the spot that evening and gathered crucial details from the frightened residents.

Taking the incident seriously, the police refused to let the lack of a civilian complaint halt their action. Noting the public display of weapons, severe life threats, and the blatant disruption of communal peace, the authorities immediately registered a suo motu case at the Kankanady town police station against the gang members to curb any further violence.
