Mangaluru, Sep 9: The Catholic Action League (CAL), Young Catholic Students (YCS) and Education Commission of St Sebastian Church, Bendur, jointly organised a Teachers’ Day celebration on Sunday, September 6, at the Platinum Jubilee Hall. Around 150 teachers participated in the programme.
The programme commenced with a prayer hymn sung by the members of CAL and YCS. Fr Arun Lobo led the opening prayer and invoked God's blessings upon all the teachers.
The programme was compered by Ashwin Pinto and Amica Frank. They welcomed the dignitaries, including parish priest and vicar Fr Walter D'Souza, assistant parish priest Fr Ozmond D'Souza and Fr Joel Monteiro, Fr Arun Lobo principal of Padua College, PPC vice-president Deepak D'Souza, secretary Royston Farias, all commissioners convenor Loy Rego and other parish representatives.
CAL member Paloma Monteiro delivered the Teachers' Day wishing speech and expressed gratitude to the teachers for their dedicated service in shaping the lives of students. YCS members presented a special wishing song in honour of the teachers.
All the teachers present were felicitated with a rose and a gift as a token of appreciation and gratitude.
In his message, Fr Walter D'Souza appreciated the commitment and dedication of teachers and highlighted their important role in moulding the future generation. A special attraction of the programme was a Teachers' Day song composed by the vicar and presented by all the priests.
Anitha Frank and Sr Saritha Lobo shared their experiences and reflections as teachers, inspiring the gathering with their thoughts and memories from the teaching profession.
Fun-filled games conducted by CAL secretary Sherwin D'Souza added excitement to the celebration, and prizes were distributed to the winners. Colourful dance performances by CAL and YCS members further entertained the gathering.
Arvin D'Souza, YCS member, proposed the vote of thanks. The programme concluded with fellowship over a meal.
The celebration was a fitting tribute to the teaching fraternity and a heartfelt expression of gratitude for their invaluable contribution to society.
