New Delhi, Sep 9: Actor Rajpal Yadav has approached the Supreme Court challenging the Delhi High Court's order in a cheque bounce case, with the deadline for his surrender nearing.

The Supreme Court has directed Yadav to deposit Rs 5 crore with the Supreme Court Registry by September 9, making the payment a condition for relief. In case he fails to deposit the amount, he will have to undergo the jail term imposed in the case. The matter will be heard next on September 15.

Yadav had suffered a setback in July when the Delhi High Court upheld his conviction in the cheque bounce case and sentenced him to three months in prison. He had earlier been granted bail on March 18, 2026.

The court had imposed a fine of Rs 1.05 crore in each of the seven cases against the actor, taking the total fine to Rs 7.35 crore. Failure to pay the fine could result in the imprisonment being extended to six months. The sentences, however, are to run concurrently, meaning the total jail term would remain three months.

The cases are linked to alleged unpaid dues arising from Yadav's 2012 directorial venture Ata Pata Laapata. The film failed to perform well at the box office, while the loan reportedly taken to finance the project continued to accumulate interest.

Before surrendering to Tihar Jail authorities, Yadav had spoken about the financial and emotional difficulties caused by the long-running legal battle. Following his arrest, several film personalities, including Salman Khan and Sonu Sood, reportedly came forward to offer financial assistance.

Yadav was recently seen in Akshay Kumar-starrers Bhooth Bangla and Welcome To The Jungle.
