Mangaluru, Sep 7: St Aloysius Pre-University College observed Harmony Week 2026, under the theme “Celebrate Differences, Embrace Unity.” The four-day observance encouraged students to appreciate diversity, cultivate empathy and contribute to building a peaceful and inclusive society.
Through prayer, insightful talks, competitions and reflective activities ,competitions and reflective activities, students explored the importance of respecting diverse identities, beliefs, cultures and perspectives. Each day featured a distinct theme centred on respect, diversity, peace and human dignity.
The celebrations commenced with an inaugural prayer service and a soulful devotional hymn presented by the Shasthriya Sangeetha Club.
Day 1: Respecting All of God’s Creation
“Honouring Every Creation, Cherishing Every Life”
The first day focused on recognising the beauty and dignity of every living being and humanity’s responsibility to care for God’s creation with gratitude and compassion.
Social activist Ms Vidya Dinker interacted with the students on social responsibility, democratic values and the role of young people in creating a just society. She encouraged them to question injustice, uphold democratic principles and participate actively in building peaceful communities. She also highlighted the importance of religious tolerance and responsible citizenship.
Rev. Fr Prashanth Sequeira SJ, Associate Dean, School of Law, St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), emphasised the need to respect diversity, challenge social conditioning and uphold constitutional values. Drawing upon history and contemporary youth movements, he urged students to think critically, stand against injustice and recognise the dignity and rights of every individual.
Day 2: Embracing Every Religion with Love
“Many Faiths, One Love, One Human Family”
The second day celebrated religious diversity and encouraged openness, acceptance and respect towards people of all faiths and traditions. Students were invited to look beyond differences in religious beliefs and recognise the shared humanity that unites everyone.
Day 3: Peace and Harmony Among People
“From Differences to Togetherness, From Hearts to Harmony”
The third day focused on nurturing peaceful and harmonious relationships. Students were reminded that peace is strengthened through listening, understanding and mutual respect, and that differences can become opportunities for cooperation and unity.
College associations organised competitions such as Harmony Hunt, Letter to the Editor and Turncoat, enabling students to examine social issues from different perspectives, articulate their views and engage creatively with the theme of harmony.
Day 4: Seeing God in All Things and Walking Together in Humanity
“Finding the Divine in Every Face, Walking Together as One”
The final day encouraged students to recognise goodness in others and move forward with compassion, kindness and a shared commitment to humanity.
As a symbolic expression of unity and togetherness, harmony bands were distributed among the students. A human chain was formed outside the Science Block, representing solidarity, cooperation and the strength of standing together.
Special Harmony Week displays and creatively designed notice boards were installed at both entrances of the college, serving as visual reminders of the values of peace, diversity, understanding and harmony.
The message of the observance was further integrated into the students’ learning experience through a video presentation and an interactive quiz, reinforcing the importance of compassion, acceptance, respect and peaceful coexistence.
Harmony Week concluded with students and staff reflecting on their shared responsibility to foster a culture of understanding and cooperation. The observance highlighted that harmony is not merely about living alongside differences, but about recognising the dignity of every person and responding to diversity with openness and respect.
