Imphal, Sep 7: The Indian Army on Monday averted another potential threat after detecting and neutralising an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) weighing approximately 10 kg in Manipur’s Churachandpur district, officials said.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a formation under the Spear Corps detected the IED in the South Thanjing forest area and safely neutralised it.
The timely action averted a potential threat to the local population and security forces, besides ensuring safe movement in the area, the Army said in a post on X.
The development came less than 24 hours after security forces recovered three IEDs weighing around 20 kg from a jungle area between Leishabithol and Ahamadabad in Jiribam district, along the southern border of Assam.
The three explosives were recovered on Sunday in a joint operation by formations under the Spear Corps and Manipur Police. They were safely destroyed through controlled demolition, averting a major threat to life and property.
Meanwhile, the Manipur Police, in coordination with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and YADAM (Youth Against Drugs and Alcohol, Manipur), arrested two alleged drug peddlers during an anti-narcotics operation in the Khergao-Naharup areas of Kakching district.
The accused were identified as Md Riyaz Khan, 48, and Dandshawa Molody, 26, both residents of Chandel district.
Ten soap cases containing heroin, along with a Honda Activa and a Ford Figo, were recovered and seized from their possession, a police official said.
