AAP leader shot dead by armed assailants in Punjab

Ferozepur, Aug 30: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi was shot dead by four armed assailants in Mamdot in Punjab's Ferozepur district on Saturday evening, police said on Sunday.

The incident occurred in the main bazaar of Mamdot when four assailants travelling in a car got down from their vehicle and opened fire at the car in which 45-year-old Singh was travelling with another person, identified as Harpreet alias Happy, 22.

Both men sustained injuries in the firing and were rushed to the Civil Hospital. Doctors declared Singh brought dead, while Harpreet was referred to a private hospital in Ludhiana for further treatment.

Police have launched an investigation into the shooting and are working to identify and trace the assailants.
