Konkani Manyatha Diwas celebrated at Omzoor: Emphasis placed on preserving mother tongue

Mangaluru, Aug 23: The ICYM Omzoor Unit organized a vibrant celebration of Konkani Manyatha Diwas at the Holy Family Church grounds on August 23, immediately following Sunday Mass. The event brought together parishioners and youth to honor the rich cultural heritage and linguistic roots of the Konkani language.

The formal stage programme commenced in the presence of distinguished dignitaries. Chief guest James Lewis graced the occasion alongside ICYM director and parish priest Fr William Menezes, Parish Pastoral Council vice president Arthur D’Souza, secretary Daffny Lewis, superior of St Charles Borromeo Sr Luciana and ICYM coordinators Vineet and Glevita Lasrado. ICYM Omzoor Unit president Joswin Pinto and secretary Lavita Pereira were also present on the dais.

In his address to the gathering, chief guest James Lewis highlighted the crucial importance of preserving the Konkani language for future generations. Fr William Menezes echoed these sentiments, encouraging the youth to stay deeply connected to their mother tongue and take immense pride in their cultural identity.

Adding a creative touch to the day's events, ICYM members staged an engaging skit focused on Konkani culture. The performance vividly depicted the traditions, customs, and shared heritage of both Goan and Mangalorean communities, drawing warm appreciation from the audience.

The entire event was compared by Renisha D'Souza. The celebration concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by secretary Lavita Pereira, who expressed gratitude to the guests, organizers, and parishioners for making the event a resounding success.
