Mangaluru: Milagres Church celebrates Assumption feast, Independence Day

Mangaluru, Aug 15: The feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Independence Day were celebrated with great devotion and patriotic spirit at Our Lady of Miracles Church, Milagres, Mangaluru.

The Solemn Holy Mass was celebrated by Fr Uday Fernandes. Following the Mass, the Independence Day programme commenced with the flag-hoisting ceremony. The chief guest, Antony Monteiro, hoisted the national flag, followed by the singing of the national anthem.

The gathering was welcomed by Paul Saldanha, convener, Social Development. Dixon D’Souza, vice president, PPC, introduced the chief guest, Antony Monteiro, who then addressed the gathering with a meaningful message on patriotism, unity and responsible citizenship.

Fr Ivan Rodrigues, parish priest, delivered a message highlighting the significance of the occasion. The celebration continued with a patriotic song by the choir, followed by a lively flash mob dance by the youth, adding joy and enthusiasm to the programme.

The programme concluded with the vote of thanks by Jecintha Fernandes, secretary, PPC. Sweets were then distributed to the gathering.

The programme was compered by John Monteiro, coordinator, PPC. The celebration brought together faith and patriotism, making the occasion a joyful and meaningful one for the parish community.
