Kota, Aug 10: In a shocking incident, a 16-year-old Class 11 student died by suicide after his father confiscated his mobile phone to stop him from playing online games. The deceased has been identified as Mayank Nagar, a resident of Hanuman Nagar under the Dadabari police station limits.

According to family sources, Mayank was reportedly addicted to mobile gaming and spent long hours on his phone. On Sunday night, his father, Chauthmal Nagar, noticed him engrossed in a game and asked him to put the phone away. When Mayank refused to listen, his father took the device from him. Furious over the intervention, the teenager consumed a poisonous substance shortly after.

"His condition suddenly deteriorated, and he collapsed. When we asked him what happened, he confessed to having consumed poison," said the victim's uncle, Sant Ram.

The family immediately rushed Mayank to a nearby private hospital, but he succumbed during treatment on Monday morning.

The tragic demise of their only son has shattered the family. Mayank’s father, who works as a painter and is a heart patient, suffered severe health complications following the news of his son's death and had to be given medical care. Mayank's mother remains inconsolable. "I never imagined that taking his phone away would lead to such a horrific step," expressed a grief-stricken Chauthmal.

Following the death, the family initially refused to perform an autopsy. However, police personnel intervened and convinced them of the legal procedure. The post-mortem examination was conducted at the New Medical College Hospital mortuary on Monday morning, after which the body was handed over to the grieving family.

Dadabari Police Station SHO Baldev Ram stated that the family was initially reluctant to consent to the autopsy but agreed after persuasion. Police have registered a case based on the complaint provided by the family, and further investigation into the matter is underway.
