Panaji, Aug 6: A delegation from Benaulim has urged South Goa District Collector Egna Cleetus to take immediate action against the growing issue of illegal garbage dumping in the constituency.

The delegation, led by Benaulim Sarpanch Xavier Pereira, submitted a memorandum highlighting the rise in garbage dumping hotspots, particularly along the western bypass and areas beneath the highway overpass.

The delegation included social worker Warren Alemao and Colva panchayat member Pio Furtado.

During the meeting, Pereira said the Benaulim panchayat has been regularly managing dry waste collection but faces challenges in disposing of wet waste due to the lack of proper treatment facilities.

He said the panchayat is ready to collect wet waste up to three times a week if an appropriate agency is identified for processing and treatment.

The delegation urged the district administration to take strict action against individuals responsible for repeated illegal dumping at identified black spots and sought the implementation of a sustainable waste management system for the constituency.

Collector Egna Cleetus reportedly acknowledged the recurring garbage dumping issue beneath the highway overpass and assured the delegation that the matter would be looked into by the administration.
