New Delhi, Jul 30: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday staged a protest in Delhi against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and its national convenor Arvind Kejriwal over alleged examination paper leak cases in Punjab, demanding the resignation of Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains.
Heavy police deployment was made outside the AAP headquarters in the national capital to maintain law and order during the demonstration.
The BJP alleged that several recruitment and examination papers had been leaked in Punjab in recent months, affecting the future of lakhs of aspirants. Holding the AAP government responsible, the party sought Harjot Singh Bains' resignation on moral grounds.
The protest follows an earlier demonstration by BJP MPs inside the Parliament complex on July 28, led by Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal. During the protest, BJP leaders demanded accountability over the alleged paper leak cases and reiterated their demand for the Education Minister's resignation.
The BJP has maintained that repeated allegations of examination leaks have undermined the credibility of Punjab's recruitment process and created uncertainty among job seekers.
Meanwhile, the Shiromani Akali Dal also stepped up its attack on the Punjab government. Party MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to order a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into what she described as 11 alleged examination scams during the AAP government's tenure in Punjab.
In a post on X, Harsimrat Kaur Badal said she had sought a comprehensive CBI investigation on behalf of the people of Punjab, asserting that the state deserved full accountability.
The Congress also criticised the Punjab government over the issue. On Monday, Congress MPs held a protest outside Parliament demanding the resignation of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
The Congress alleged that multiple examination paper leak incidents had taken place in the state and also criticised the police action against sanitation workers protesting in Barnala.
The alleged paper leak cases have emerged as a major political issue in Punjab, with the BJP, Shiromani Akali Dal and Congress accusing the AAP government of failing to ensure transparency in recruitment examinations. The AAP government has faced sustained criticism from opposition parties, which continue to demand accountability and independent investigations into the allegations.
