Bhubaneswar, Jul 29: Odisha chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi has assured that the safety and well-being of every citizen remain the state government's highest priority as floods triggered by incessant rainfall have affected more than two lakh people across several districts.

In a post on X, the Chief Minister said he is personally monitoring the evolving flood situation across the state. He reviewed the situation with the Chief Secretary and the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) and directed the entire administrative machinery to ensure the safety of people living in flood-hit areas.

Appealing to the public to remain calm, Majhi urged residents to follow official advisories and cooperate with the administration. "We stand firmly with you at every step," he said.

To strengthen flood management, the state government has deputed three senior IAS officers to oversee evacuation, relief, and rescue operations in the worst-affected districts of Baleswar, Bhadrak, and Jajpur.

The Chief Minister said the Special Relief Commissioner's Office and the State Emergency Operation Centre are functioning round the clock to monitor river water levels and the overall flood situation. Teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF), Fire Services, and police have been kept on high alert to evacuate people from vulnerable low-lying areas whenever necessary.

Majhi also said relief shelters have been stocked with safe drinking water, cooked food, emergency healthcare services, anti-snake venom, and adequate fodder for livestock. Police have intensified night patrolling in vulnerable areas to safeguard the property of evacuated families.

The Chief Minister further directed officials to ensure prompt assessment of flood damage and expedite compensation for people whose houses and agricultural land have been affected.
