Mumbai, Jul 28: Marvel's Spider-Man: Brand New Day has been cleared for theatrical release in India by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) with a UA 13+ certificate, subject to a few minor modifications ahead of its release on July 30.
According to the CBFC certification details, the board directed the makers to remove a romantic kissing scene from the film. It also instructed them to mute or remove certain strong words and objectionable language from the English audio and subtitle tracks.
The board further mandated the inclusion of a static anti-liquor health warning during scenes depicting alcohol consumption. Apart from these changes, the film has been cleared without any significant edits to its storyline or action sequences.
The film, starring Tom Holland and Zendaya, received certification from the CBFC's Mumbai regional office. It has an approved runtime of 144.52 minutes (2 hours and 24 minutes).
According to the official synopsis, the story is set four years after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Peter Parker is now living alone in a world that no longer remembers him. As he devotes himself to protecting New York City as Spider-Man, he faces increasing responsibilities while dealing with a mysterious physical transformation.
Despite its theatrical release, Spider-Man: Brand New Day will not be screened in IMAX theatres in India. Reports suggest the decision is linked to Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, which releases two weeks earlier and was filmed entirely using IMAX cameras. The film is expected to receive an exclusive IMAX run in several markets, including India.
Confirming the development, Sony Pictures said that Spider-Man: Brand New Day would not receive an IMAX release in India but would instead be available in premium large-format (PLF) screens to offer audiences an enhanced big-screen experience.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and produced by Kevin Feige, Amy Pascal and Sony Pictures USA, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to release in Indian theatres on July 30.
