Udupi, Jul 27: An lorry veered off the road after the driver allegedly tried to avoid hitting a pedestrian, crashing into a roadside transformer and an electric pole before entering the compound of a house at Perampalli near Manipal on the night of July 25.
According to reports, the lorry was being driven by Umesh, a native of Karkala, from Manipal towards Perampalli when an unidentified person suddenly attempted to cross the road. In an effort to avoid a collision, the driver swerved the vehicle to the left, resulting in the accident.
The lorry first rammed into a roadside transformer and an electric pole before crashing into the compound of a house belonging to local resident Ravi Poojary.

The impact damaged a cement sheet in the house compound, while the front portion of the lorry was extensively damaged.
The driver sustained minor injuries and escaped without serious harm.
A major tragedy was averted as there were no pedestrians on the roadside or anyone present in the house compound at the time of the accident.
