Islamabad, Jul 24: Pakistan’s military leadership has reportedly played a key role in behind-the-scenes efforts to prevent an escalation between Iran and Saudi Arabia amid the ongoing US-Israel-Iran conflict, according to sources.

Reports claimed that Pakistan Army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir held discussions with senior officials of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), including commander Ahmad Vahidi, in an attempt to discourage any possible Iranian strikes against Saudi Arabia.

The alleged talks reportedly focused on preventing the conflict from spreading to Gulf nations, particularly Saudi Arabia, which has close strategic ties with the United States and hosts important regional facilities.

Sources claimed that Munir warned Iran that any attack on Saudi territory could affect a reported Pakistan-Iran oil venture. However, the existence of the alleged agreement and details of the reported commercial arrangement have not been independently verified, and neither Pakistan nor Iran has officially acknowledged such a deal.

The reports suggested that the discussions resulted in an informal understanding, under which Iran refrained from targeting Saudi Arabia for a certain period. The arrangement reportedly came under pressure following claims of an Iranian missile strike targeting Saudi territory.

Pakistan is said to have conveyed concerns through military channels, warning that any further escalation could impact Islamabad’s broader diplomatic and strategic interests in the region.
Diplomatic sources described the reported efforts as "shadow diplomacy", with Pakistan attempting to balance its longstanding partnership with Saudi Arabia while maintaining communication channels with Iran.

The developments also led to speculation that other Gulf nations, including the UAE and Qatar, may have explored similar arrangements to avoid possible attacks. However, officials from both countries have denied entering into any such agreements.

No official confirmation has emerged from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Iran or the IRGC regarding the reported backchannel discussions. The claims remain unverified as regional powers continue efforts to navigate rising tensions in the Middle East.
