Retired teacher dies after auto-rickshaw overturns in Moodbidri

Moodbidri, Jul 22: A retired teacher was killed in a road accident near Ratan Garage in Moodbidri town on Wednesday evening.

The deceased has been identified as G.K. Bhat (Gopal Krishna Bhat), a resident of Venugopal Colony.

According to eyewitnesses, Bhat was travelling in an auto-rickshaw along with other passengers towards Moodbidri when the driver reportedly applied the brakes suddenly to avoid colliding with a motorcycle. The sudden braking caused the auto-rickshaw to overturn.

The impact threw Bhat out of the vehicle, leaving him with critical injuries. He was rushed to a private hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries despite medical treatment.

Bhat was a retired teacher and a senior RSS worker. He is survived by his wife and daughter.

The auto-rickshaw was being driven by Ahmed, a resident of Mariyadi. A case has been registered at the Moodbidri Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
