Mumbai, Jul 22: Actor Vinny Arora has addressed the controversy surrounding her husband Dheeraj Dhoopar's brief reunion with their son during Lock Upp Season 2, admitting that she made an "emotional mistake" but insisting her actions were driven purely by concern for his health and not to influence the game.
In a video statement, Vinny said Dheeraj had been unwell even before entering the reality show and had considered withdrawing from the competition. However, he decided to honour his commitment to the makers and participate despite his condition.
She said that after watching the episodes, she felt Dheeraj continued to look unwell, citing his swollen eyes and appearance. According to Vinny, she could sense he was not in good health and reached out only out of concern as his wife.
She also revealed that managing both her husband's illness and their son Zayn's health had been emotionally overwhelming. While acknowledging that sending a signal to Dheeraj was a mistake, she maintained that it was never intended as gameplay advice. She said the show's makers understood her intentions and issued only a warning, allowing Dheeraj to continue in the competition.
During a recent episode, jailer Riteish Deshmukh informed Dheeraj that while the makers had permitted a family meeting on humanitarian grounds, someone had attempted to secretly send written notes during the interaction.
Riteish further stated that another set of notes was later found among Dheeraj's belongings sent from home. Although Dheeraj was not aware of either incident, he was issued a final warning, with the host stressing that no contestant would be allowed to receive an unfair advantage through outside assistance.
Responding to the warning, Dheeraj requested his family not to send him any further outside help, stating that he wished to play the game on his own and did not support external intervention.
The episode sparked mixed reactions among viewers, with some questioning why the family meeting had not been aired earlier and why stricter action had not been taken. Several social media users alleged that another contestant might have faced harsher consequences under similar circumstances.
Meanwhile, with only a few weeks remaining before the Lock Upp Season 2 finale, the latest promotional teaser has hinted at the entry of a new wildcard contestant. Although the makers have not officially confirmed the identity, reports suggest that content creator Apoorva Mukhija, popularly known as The Rebel Kid, could soon join the reality show.
