New Delhi, Jul 20: India on Sunday advised its nationals to postpone all travel to Iran until the security situation improves and urged those already in the country to consider leaving through available commercial flights amid escalating conflict and instability.
In a revised travel advisory, the Indian Embassy in Tehran said recent developments had led to a significant deterioration in the security environment across Iran, requiring Indian citizens to exercise extreme caution.
"Indian nationals intending to travel to Iran for any purpose should postpone travel for the time being, until the security environment improves," the embassy said.
The mission also advised Indians currently in Iran to consider temporarily leaving the country using available commercial flight services.
Those who choose to remain have been asked to exercise the "highest possible level of caution", closely monitor news reports to stay updated on the evolving situation, and avoid areas witnessing heightened military activity, particularly along Iran's southern coast.
The embassy urged Indian nationals to strictly follow instructions issued by local authorities.
It also requested all Indian citizens in Iran who have not yet registered with the embassy to do so immediately and regularly monitor the mission's official website and social media platforms for further updates.
The advisory comes amid renewed security concerns following a sharp escalation in hostilities in the region.
In recent days, the United States has carried out strikes targeting bridges, water desalination plants and electrical facilities in Iran, while Tehran has retaliated by launching attacks against US-allied countries across West Asia.
India has previously issued similar advisories during periods of heightened tensions in West Asia and has consistently urged its nationals to remain in touch with the embassy for assistance.
The Indian mission has also shared emergency helpline numbers for citizens requiring consular support.
