Udupi: Senior citizen alleges family abandoned him near Indrali Railway Station; case registered

Udupi, Jul 15: A 67-year-old man has alleged that he was abandoned by his wife and children near Indrali Railway Station in Udupi after being subjected to neglect and harassment.

According to the complaint filed with Manipal Police, Jagadish Shetty, who has been suffering from health issues, alleged that his wife Sunanda, daughters Shwetha and Neetha, and son Nithin subjected him to physical and mental harassment. He further claimed that they failed to provide him with adequate food and medical treatment.

The complainant stated that on July 11, he was forcibly brought from Panvel near Mumbai to Udupi by his family. He alleged that at around 8.30 am on July 12, they left him near Indrali Railway Station in Shivalli village after arriving in an autorickshaw, reportedly stating that they would no longer take responsibility for him before leaving the spot.

Jagadish Shetty, a senior citizen, has alleged that his wife and children, who are legally responsible for his care and protection, neglected and abandoned him instead of providing the required support.

Based on his complaint, Manipal Police have registered a case (Crime No. 109/2026) under Section 24 of the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007. Further investigation is underway.

    Hears bit strange.First of all before taking decision should hear from both sides.May be he too is a bit too much trouble maker?So they are tired of his grumblings?Anyway railway station is certainly not the place to leave him alone without proper food and a stay,He belongs too a stay in a house.Police or a social service perso must look into this and his family must take care. Hope someone looks into this

    You rightly say both sides should be heard. But then why speculate that "maybe he is a troublemaker"? That's also judging without evidence. Let the investigation establish the truth. If an elderly person was indeed abandoned, there's no justification for it
