Hyderabad, Jul 7: A 32-year-old woman has been arrested along with her alleged lover and another accomplice for allegedly murdering her husband by injecting toilet cleaner through a cannula while he was undergoing treatment, police said.

The accused, identified as Sandhya, allegedly conspired with her paramour, Anil, 35, and an associate, Venkata Sai, to eliminate her husband, Prasanth, 35, who worked in a Gulf country.

The case came to light after Prasanth's mother lodged a complaint on Jul. 1, stating that she learnt about her son's death on Jun. 30 and was unaware that he had returned home from abroad. She described the death as suspicious and expressed doubts about the involvement of her daughter-in-law.

According to police, the investigation, supported by technical evidence, revealed that Sandhya was allegedly in an illicit relationship with Anil and that the two viewed Prasanth as an obstacle to their relationship.

Police said the trio plotted the murder and, on Jun. 29, Venkata Sai allegedly visited Prasanth's house, made him consume large quantities of alcohol and later took him to the terrace of the building. Acting on instructions from Sandhya over the phone, Sai allegedly pushed Prasanth from the terrace.

Although Prasanth sustained serious injuries, he survived the fall. Sandhya and Sai first took him to a government hospital for treatment, later shifted him to a private hospital and eventually brought him back home.

Police alleged that, after being encouraged by Anil, Sandhya injected toilet cleaner and an anaesthetic drug into Prasanth through a cannula while he was receiving treatment. She also allegedly pushed him off the bed, resulting in his death.

Investigators said all three accused confessed to their roles during questioning. They have been arrested and produced before a court, which remanded them to judicial custody.

The case comes amid heightened public attention on recent high-profile murder investigations, including the Ketan Agrawal murder case in Pune. In that case, police recently recovered a Snapchat message allegedly sent by accused Siya Goyal weeks before the incident, in which she reportedly told a friend that her planned marriage to Agrawal "was not going to happen."

According to investigators, Goyal had allegedly sought her friend's Aadhaar details for wedding travel bookings while simultaneously indicating that the wedding would not take place. Police said they plan to question the friend to determine whether she had any prior knowledge of the alleged conspiracy.

Goyal and her alleged partner, Chetan Chaudhary, were arrested last month for allegedly pushing Ketan Agrawal into a gorge at Lohagad Fort on Jun. 18. The investigation into the case is continuing.
