Beltangady, Jul 7: A 47-year-old man was killed on the spot while his brother sustained serious injuries after a goods autorickshaw collided head-on with their motorcycle near Nittade in Venoor police station limits on the night of July 5.
The deceased has been identified as Ravindra Moolya (47), a resident of Thimaradde House, Gandhinagar, Karimanelu village, under Venoor gram panchayat limits. His brother, Jagadish Moolya, suffered severe leg injuries and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Mangaluru.

According to reports, the brothers, who worked as masons, were returning to Venoor from Guruvayanakere on a motorcycle after completing work when the accident occurred near Kumbhashree School at Nittade. A goods autorickshaw travelling from Venoor allegedly rammed into their bike head-on.
The impact of the collision threw the motorcycle off balance. Ravindra sustained fatal head injuries and died at the scene, while Jagadish was seriously injured. The autorickshaw driver, along with local residents, shifted the injured man to hospital.
Preliminary information suggests that the goods autorickshaw veered onto the opposite side of the road while attempting to avoid a small pothole on the highway at Nittade. Rain and poor visibility are also believed to have contributed to the accident, as the motorcycle rider may not have anticipated the vehicle entering his lane.
A case has been registered at the Venoor police station, and further investigation is underway.
