Retaining wall, hillside collapse at NH work site near Moodbidri; no casualties

Daijiworld Media Network – Moodbidri

Moodbidri, Jul 2: A retaining wall and a portion of a hillside collapsed near Nelligudde in Puthige Gram Panchayat limits, where National Highway construction is under way, on Wednesday.

The incident is believed to have been triggered by continuous rainfall, which caused soil from the hill to slide and exert heavy pressure on the retaining wall constructed along the roadside. The wall eventually gave way, resulting in a large-scale landslip at the construction site.

Following the incident, construction personnel rushed to the spot to assess the situation and initiated precautionary safety measures.

No casualties or injuries were reported in the incident.

Officials concerned have also visited the site to inspect the damage and ascertain the extent of the collapse and the factors that led to the incident.
