Ahmedabad, Jun 27: A staff member of a private school in Ahmedabad has been suspended and detained for questioning after the parents of a primary school student allegedly reported sexual abuse inside the school premises.

The incident came to light after the student from a private school in South Bopal informed parents about alleged misconduct by a school employee inside the washroom. The parents subsequently approached the school management with a complaint.

Following the allegation, the school suspended the accused staff member with immediate effect and informed the police and education department. Police have begun an investigation and taken the employee into custody for questioning.

According to the school management, the accused was working as a housekeeping staff member and was responsible for cleaning duties. He had been associated with the institution for around three years along with his family, and no previous complaints had been reported against him, the school said.

A school trustee said the management immediately contacted police after receiving the complaint from the child’s parents, considering the seriousness of the allegation.

Police are continuing their investigation into the matter.
