Chennai, Jun 24: The makers of Karthi-starrer Sardar 2 have announced that the much-awaited sequel to the 2022 blockbuster Sardar will be released in theatres worldwide on September 10.
Karthi shared the release date along with a new glimpse from the film on social media. The video shows the actor in his role as Agent Sardar, alias Chandra Bose, standing with a gun amid explosions in the background.

Posting the teaser, Karthi wrote, “#Sardar2 ARRIVES… Worldwide in theatres on September 10!”
Directed by P.S. Mithran, Sardar 2 features Karthi reprising his dual roles from the original film. The sequel also stars Rajisha Vijayan, while SJ Suryah, Malavika Mohanan and Ashika Ranganath join the cast in key roles.
The film is produced by Prince Pictures and IVY Entertainment, with the script written by Rathna Kumar, Ashameera Aiyappan and Vignesh Muniyandi.
The release sets up a major box-office clash with Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna’s period drama Ranabaali, which is scheduled to release on September 11. Both films will arrive shortly after Yash’s much-anticipated film Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups, which is slated to hit theatres on August 26.
Sardar, released in 2022, was a commercial success and grossed around ?84.5 crore worldwide, becoming one of the highest-grossing films of Karthi’s career.
The sequel’s production had faced a setback in July 2024 after stuntman Ezhumalai died following an accident on the sets during the initial shooting schedule in Chennai. Following the incident, shooting was temporarily halted and industry bodies conducted safety awareness programmes for film workers.
With the release date now confirmed, Sardar 2 is expected to be one of the major Tamil releases of the year.
