Begusarai, Jun 18: Police in Bihar's Begusarai district have launched a high-level investigation after a woman alleged that five men gang-raped and assaulted her, with doctors later recovering a cartridge-like object, a stone and a piece of wood from her body during medical treatment.

According to the woman's complaint, the incident occurred on the night of Jun 11 when she stepped out of her house to use the toilet. She alleged that five men approached her, overpowered her and dragged her to a secluded location.

The woman claimed that the accused tied her hands and legs before taking turns to sexually assault her. She further alleged that the attackers inflicted injuries on different parts of her body using a sharp object and later abandoned her at the spot.

Family members rushed her to a hospital, where she received treatment and was discharged on Jun 12. However, the woman said she continued to experience severe pain after returning home.

On Jun 17, she was taken back to the district hospital for further examination. During medical investigations, including an ultrasound scan, doctors reportedly recovered a cartridge-like object, a stone and a piece of wood from her body, according to the victim and police officials.

The woman has also alleged police inaction, claiming that despite informing authorities soon after the incident, no significant action was taken initially.

She further alleged that some of the accused had entered her house around three months ago, assaulted her and attempted to sexually assault her. A case had reportedly been registered in connection with that incident as well.

Following the latest developments, senior police officials visited the hospital and recorded the victim's statement again. Multiple teams led by senior officers have been formed to investigate the case.

Begusarai Sadar Deputy Superintendent of Police Anand Kumar Pandey said the investigation is being carried out from all angles using scientific methods. He confirmed that certain objects had been recovered during medical treatment and stated that the woman's allegations appeared credible at this stage of the inquiry.

Police said the victim, in her statement before a court, also levelled allegations of rape against the accused.

Officials added that efforts are underway to identify and arrest all those involved and ensure a speedy trial. Authorities have also stated that if any negligence on the part of police personnel is found during the investigation, appropriate action will be taken.

Police said further medical and forensic reports are awaited, and the investigation is continuing.
