Puttur: 18-year-old II PU student ends life in Kokkada

Puttur, Jun 16: An 18-year-old student pursuing her second pre-university (PU) education at a private college in Beltangady allegedly died by suicide after hanging herself in her room at Hallingeri in Kokkada on Tuesday, June 16 morning.

The deceased has been identified as Shwetha (18), daughter of Ramesh. Originally from Hiregunjal-Chikkagunjal in Dharwad district, the family had been residing in Hallingeri near Kokkada for the past five years. Her parents earn their livelihood as daily wage labourers.

According to reports, Shwetha woke up as usual in the morning and was preparing to leave for college. At the time of the incident, her father had gone out for work, and only her mother was at home. Later, Shwetha was found hanging in her room.

The exact reason for her taking the extreme step is yet to be ascertained. The Dharmasthala police visited the spot, conducted a preliminary inspection, and have registered a case. Further investigations are underway.
