Mumbai, Jun 15: Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali has described the music of his upcoming film Main Vaapas Aaunga as a tribute to Punjab's vibrant cultural and musical legacy, saying the album beautifully captures the region's rich blend of folk traditions and Western influences from the 1947 era.
Speaking about the recently launched soundtrack, Imtiaz said music was always intended to be a defining element of the film because it reflects the very spirit of Punjab.

"Music was always going to be exciting in Main Vaapas Aaunga. Punjab is synonymous with music, and the Punjab of 1947 was a fascinating blend of folk melodies and Western influences, which we were eager to bring to life. That essence can be felt in songs like Ishq Mastana and Maskara. Music is the soul of Punjab, and Punjab is the soul of Main Vaapas Aaunga," he said.
Imtiaz also praised composer A.R. Rahman and lyricist Irshad Kamil, saying the duo explored new creative dimensions while working on the project.
"I have witnessed a different side of A.R. Rahman and Irshad in this film. They approached the music with immense enthusiasm and ventured deeper into discovering unique musical treasures. I'm thrilled that audiences will finally get to experience this album and I hope they cherish these songs as much as we enjoyed creating them," he said.
The filmmaker further highlighted that the album serves as a launchpad for several emerging singers.
"This album also marks the beginning of exciting journeys for talented new voices like Deepali, Heer, Antara, Adithya and Vipin. We are proud to have showcased their energy and talent, and I hope listeners embrace them with love and appreciation," he added.
Sharing his thoughts on the soundtrack, music maestro A.R. Rahman said music played a crucial role in expressing emotions that words alone could not convey.
"There are certain stories where music becomes the language of the unspoken. It communicates emotions that cannot be easily explained and reveals feelings that visuals alone may not capture. In Main Vaapas Aaunga, the songs and background score were created by listening to the silence within the story and giving it a voice. I hope audiences discover a part of themselves in this music," Rahman said.
The makers have now unveiled the film's complete album, introducing several new tracks, including Dheere Dheere, performed by Faheem Abdullah, Shilpa Rao and Antra Nandy.
The soundtrack also features Heer; Tere Paas Main, available in separate female and male versions, sung by Deepali Sahay and Vipin Aneja respectively, along with Dariya, performed by Armaan Khan and Romy.
Main Vaapas Aaunga boasts a star-studded cast featuring Diljit Dosanjh, Naseeruddin Shah, Sharvari and Vedang Raina in pivotal roles.
The film is produced by Birla Studios and Applause Entertainment, along with Mohit Choudhary and Shibasish Sarkar under the Window Seat Films banner, and is scheduled to release in theatres on June 12, 2026.
