Mangaluru: St Agnes PU College observes World Environment Day

Mangaluru, Jun 13: St Agnes PU College observed World Environment Day by conducting an awareness programme on the theme ‘Nature: Our Future’.

The chief guest, Rajesh Baligar, currently serving as the range forest officer, Mangaluru range since 2023, addressed the gathering. In his inspiring speech, he emphasized the importance of preserving nature and protecting the environment for future generations. He urged students to adopt eco-friendly practices, reduce waste, conserve water, and actively participate in tree plantation drives. He highlighted that every individual has a responsibility to safeguard natural resources and stressed that small efforts made today can create a greener and healthier tomorrow.

A thought-provoking drama on environmental conservation was presented by the students, effectively conveying the importance of protecting nature.

The programme was graced by the presence of vice principal Sr Janet Sequeira and Ancilla, lecturer in statistics. A sapling was planted on the college campus as a symbol of commitment towards environmental conservation. Saplings were also distributed to interested students, encouraging them to nurture and care for the environment. An indoor plant competition was also held for both students and staff to foster a greener and healthier living environment.

The programme began with a cordial welcome delivered by Thanvi. Christina efficiently compered the proceedings, ensuring the smooth flow of the event. The programme concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks proposed by Subhashini.

As part of the World Environment Day activities, a beach cleaning drive was also organized at Panambur beach. Around 50 students from the college actively participated in the initiative, contributing towards maintaining a clean and healthy coastal environment. The activity helped create awareness among students about the importance of environmental responsibility and the need to protect natural ecosystems.

The entire programme was conducted under the guidance of Dr Tressie Menezes, Abhaya coordinator.
