Beijing, Jun 12: Vivo has revealed key details of its upcoming foldable smartphone, the Vivo X Fold 6, ahead of its official launch in China. The company confirmed that the device will be powered by a specially developed MediaTek Dimensity 9500 Super Edition chipset, created jointly by Vivo and MediaTek.

According to Vivo product manager Han Boxiao, the custom processor has been designed specifically for foldable smartphones after nearly two years of collaboration between the two companies. The chipset is claimed to deliver significant improvements in artificial intelligence (AI) performance, including a 111 per cent increase in peak NPU performance and a 56 per cent reduction in power consumption compared to its predecessor.

Vivo said the new chip is optimised for large-screen foldable devices and AI-driven functionalities. It is expected to enhance offline speech transcription, AI-generated summaries, text processing, AI question-and-answer features, file management, and multitasking capabilities through the company's Atomic Workbench feature.

The Vivo X Fold 6 has already been confirmed to run on OriginOS 6 Fold and is expected to succeed the Vivo X Fold 5.

As per reports, the foldable smartphone may feature an 8-inch inner display and a 6.51-inch outer screen. It is also tipped to house a massive 6,900mAh battery and a high-end camera setup, including a 200-megapixel primary sensor and a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto lens.

While Vivo has not yet announced the official launch date, the company is expected to unveil the device in the Chinese market in the coming weeks.
