Mumbai, Jun 12: Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor has revealed that the underwhelming performance of his last two films, Deva and O Romeo, has prompted him to rethink how he chooses movie scripts.
Speaking during the promotion of his upcoming film Cocktail 2, Shahid admitted that film success remains unpredictable regardless of experience and said the recent setbacks have led him to make significant changes to his decision-making process.

Reflecting on the performance of his recent releases, the actor said that while artists always hope to make the right choices, the outcome of a film is influenced by several factors beyond an actor’s control. He noted that filmmaking is a collaborative process and that directors ultimately shape how a performance appears on screen.
Shahid also disclosed that he no longer attends script narrations alone. Earlier, he preferred listening to stories independently before making decisions, but has now started involving members of his team in the process.
According to the actor, having multiple perspectives helps him assess projects more objectively and reduces the possibility of interpreting a script solely through his own artistic lens.
Deva, released in 2025, was an action thriller directed by Rosshan Andrrews. Despite generating considerable interest, the film received mixed reviews and failed to perform as expected at the box office. This was followed by O Romeo in 2026, directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, which also failed to meet commercial expectations despite strong pre-release buzz.
Shahid is now gearing up for the release of Cocktail 2, directed by Homi Adajania. The film, which also stars Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna, revolves around a love triangle and is scheduled to hit theatres on June 19.
