Srinagar, Jun 10: Two Army personnel lost their lives after sustaining critical injuries in an accidental explosion near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district on Wednesday, officials said.

According to official sources, the incident took place in the Kamalkote area of the Uri sector.

The soldiers were critically injured in the explosion and were immediately evacuated to the Army's Base Hospital in the Badamibagh Cantonment area of Srinagar.

"They have been identified as Arjun Jadhav and Vikram Balakrishna, both from Maharashtra. Despite the best efforts of doctors, they succumbed to their injuries," officialls said.

Both soldiers were serving with the 8 Rashtriya Rifles.

The exact circumstances leading to the explosion were not immediately known, and further details are awaited.

Jammu and Kashmir has a 740-km-long Line of Control running through the districts of Baramulla, Kupwara and Bandipora in Kashmir Valley, and Poonch, Rajouri and parts of Jammu district in the Jammu region.

Apart from the LoC, the Union Territory also shares a 240-km-long International Border with Pakistan across the districts of Samba, Jammu and Kathua.

The LoC is guarded by the Indian Army, while the Border Security Force (BSF) is responsible for securing the International Border.

Security forces maintain a high level of vigilance along both frontiers to prevent infiltration, smuggling, cross-border terrorism and drone-related activities.

Authorities have deployed advanced anti-drone systems along the borders to counter attempts by terror groups to use drones for transporting arms, ammunition, narcotics and cash into Indian territory.

Investigations into the accidental blast are underway.
