Mangaluru: Young author and orator Reshel Fernandes joins Congress

Mangaluru, Jun 9: Young author and orator Reshel Bretny Fernandes has joined the Indian National Congress, marking a significant step in her public and social journey.

A native of Mangaluru, Reshel has earned recognition at the international, national and state levels for her contributions to literature, public speaking and youth engagement. She has been the recipient of several prestigious awards, including the Kittur Rani Chennamma State Award, National Icon Award presented at the Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya, Desh Ratna Award at Bharat Mandapam, and the J Maurus Lifetime Award.

Reshel has authored five books on subjects ranging from youth participation and governance to education, environment and nation-building. Her notable works include Bharat at 2047: Role of Youth, Surajya – Good Governance: Wheel of Democracy, Light of Education Brightens the World, Environment: Bond of Coexistence, and Voice of the Nation: Youth and Politics.

She has actively volunteered with organisations such as Disha Bharat and Samartha Bharata Thinkers Forum Karnataka. She is also an international member of DRDC Global and has received appreciation for her achievements from several dignitaries, including the President of India, Vice-President and Prime Minister.

Speaking on her decision to enter politics, Reshel said that her focus would be on youth empowerment, women's development, and addressing the challenges of the 21st century through meaningful public participation and policy initiatives.

She was inducted into the Indian National Congress by District Congress president and former MLC Harish Kumar in the presence of Appi, general secretary of Karnataka Mahila Congress, along with party office-bearers Shantala and Vijayalakshmi.
