California, Jun 5: A graduation ceremony in California ended in tragedy after a shooting on a high school campus left one person dead and three others injured, including a child.

The incident occurred on the evening of June 3 at Fairfield High School, where a graduation ceremony for nearby Sem Yeto High School was being held. According to police, the shooting took place in the parking lot towards the end of the event, which was attended by around 1,000 people.

Fairfield Police responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 7:15 pm local time. Authorities said four people were struck by bullets during the incident.

An 18-year-old victim later succumbed to injuries, while the three injured victims — aged 11, 20 and 25 — were rushed to hospitals for treatment. Their conditions have not been disclosed.

Police said there was no immediate indication of an ongoing threat to the community, but the investigation remains active. No arrests have been made so far, and officers are working to identify those responsible.

Investigators face a challenging task, with hundreds of potential witnesses present at the ceremony. Authorities have appealed to attendees and members of the public to come forward with any information that may assist the investigation.

In a statement, the Fairfield Police Department expressed condolences to the victims and their families, assuring the community that efforts are underway to bring those responsible to justice.

The shooting has sent shockwaves through the Fairfield-Suisun community, with local leaders expressing concern over the impact on students and families who had gathered to celebrate a milestone occasion.

Both Fairfield High School and Sem Yeto High School are part of the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District. The investigation is continuing.
